COVER GOALS: Essence Celebrates 30th Anniversary Issue with Iconic May 2000 Cover

The star power of this issue.

In right hair salon, this cover was often used as a style reference among Black Hair and Hype Hair magazines. Essence magazine set the bar placing Queen Latifah, Michael Michele, Loretta Devine, Halle Berry, Vivica A. Fox, Jada Pinkett, Elise Neal, and Regina King on the same cover.

Dresses designed by Celebrity Fashion Designer, Angela Dean who said “[Essence Former Fashion Director, Pamela Macklin] contacted me and said she decided to have me design all the dresses. She sent me a picture of a bouquet of flowers with all these beautiful colors for inspiration. The idea was to showcase color, unique necklines and styles that best fit each actresses body type and personality. We had one fitting the night before the shoot.”

To date this has been the highest selling cover in the history of Essence.
